Welcome Post

Welcome to my page!
I'm currently enrolled at Linn-Benton Community College where I'm working towards my Associate's of General Studies. I've been interested in the arts for a great portion of my life and have finally been able to take courses that align with that passion. In high school, I leaned more on my love of English and planned on pursuing it in my higher education. Unfortunately, the pandemic disrupted these plans and I put a pin in all my creative endeavors. I instead opted to join the workforce where I have gained nearly three years of experience in office settings. After this time, I've decided to return to school to both strengthen my resume and explore my career options.
This semester, I enrolled in JN134 to learn more about the world of photography. I noticed that in my spare time, I've been driven by documenting the world around me. With my camera roll filled with moments I've captured, and my history with writing, I figured a class where the two met would be a great place to start. As for my experience, I've been shooting with iPhone cameras since I was twelve. I haven't shared many of the images and didn't consider myself a photographer until this past year. Being shaped by the internet culture growing up, it seemed that sharing anything other than vacation photos was socially frowned upon, and that amateur photography was embarrassing somehow. At twenty-two, I now know that these limited beliefs are wrong.
As I work through this class, I strive to gain the confidence to combat my inner critic. I have a perfectionist mentality, a fear of being perceived, and am introverted to my core. The idea is that the more I get out in the world with my camera, the less anxious I'll feel doing it. Another goal I have in mind is to find my style. I think it's important to know going forward what I work well with. Likewise, I'd like to figure out what subjects I work best with.
